15 Things about becoming a mom.
- Your life changes in every way you don’t think. There’s no popping to the shop really quick for one thing you forgot to buy, you leave it and wait until you have a whole list of stuff that makes it worth going to the shops. Because not only are you going to the shops to get a few things, you’re packing a nappy bag along with an extra blanket incase it gets cold, as well as a water bottle because breastfeeding dehydrates you like a mofo. You’re also packing specific toys that can attach onto something so that the child can’t throw it out of the pram and have you playing the pick up my stuff game. On top of this you need to remember your own stuff like your purse, phone, keys and anything else you’d normally keep in a handbag – which you can no longer use because its one more thing to carry. Once you get to the shop, unpack the pram from the car, pack all the things into the pram, put the child in the pram, make sure you have everything one fin time and proceed to the shop where you’ll probably forget half the stuff you need to get because you’re already carrying your child pushing the pram with one arm and trying to keep people from touching your baby during an actual world wide pandemic, kicking yourself for leaving the house by yourself once again.
- Parking will never be the same. Not only are you looking for a parking where you have enough space to get the baby out of the car seat without hitting the car next to you, you are also looking for a space close to the entrance so that when you finally leave when the inevitable crying has occurred, you can get in the car quickly and get out of there ASAP. I’ve learnt that some places even offer a moms with Tots parking spaces – which is awesome because they’re extra wide and usually right in front of the entrance. However you’ll get extremely emotional, if not aggressive, when people with no child accompanying them decide to park there for no reason at all.
- If you like being spontaneous, don’t have kids. There is so much planning to do if you want to leave the house for a walk let alone jump in the car 5 minutes after a mate hits you up asking to go for a j at the local pot cafe just before attending a mini festival that you’d just seen advertised on Facebook in the events near you section.
